FATHER LEADS YODER PARADE AT BEDFORD

May 16th, 2015
Leading his son across the finish line, Jim Yoder scored his first ever Late Model win at Bedford Friday night.  In doing so he became the 135th different winner in the track’s long history and the third first time winner so far in 2015.  Former track champion Robby Black rallied late to score his first 2015 Limited win and Brian Duffy won the Semi Late event.  Post race  drama enveloped the remaining two events as Mike Duck (Pure Stock) and Eric Boozel  (4 Cylinder) were not the winners after crossing the finish line first.  First timer Travis Vogel and Dacron Powell prevailed in those events.
Ji m Yoder jumped aroung Chuck Clise to lead the Late Model event from the start.  By lap three though, both Dylan Yoder and Jeff Rine had gotten by Clise and were in hot pursuit.  Yoder built a comfortable lead as the next two fought furiously for second.  When the first caution flew on lap 12,  It was Rine second between the two Yoders.
After  multi car pileups on lap 12 and on lap 13 closed the field,  Jim Yoder resumed the lead but son Dylan was coming hard.  He finally out wrestled Rine for second on lap 14 and began to close with each passing lap.  When third running Rine shredded a tire on lap 24,  Dylan had one last one lap shot at the win but fell short.
At the finish it was Jim Yoder, closely followed by Dylan.  DJ Troutman, Mike Altobelli Jr and Matt Parks completed the top 5.  Mike Lupfer and Parks won the heats.
The Limited 20 lapper started out wildly as Dylan Stake got squeezed outl and, after climbing the wall in turn 4, slid the length of the front stretch on his roof.  On the complete restart, Travis Stickley took off from the field with the early lead.  Curtis Heath and Eric Irvin battled for second  until Robby Black finally arrived from the pack.
Black took third from Irvin on lap 12 and second from Heath two laps later.  With open track ahead, Black closed each lap on the leader but really got a break when Dale Claycomb slammed the wall on lap 16.  Restarting on Stickley’s Bumper,  Black blew by one lap later and romped away for the win.  Stickley, Irvin, Rick Singleton and Troy Swindell were the top 5.  Heath,  Swindell and Darrell Dick won the heats.
The Semi Late 15 lapper also started off with a bang as a multi car crash stopped things on the first lap.  When things got going, Brian Duffy took the initial lead  with the usual mob in pursuit.  Cody Buterbaugh held off the gang until Jamey Swank got by for second on lap 8.   But closing fast from 8th was multi time 2015 winner Dave Brown.
Several quick cautions late in the event gave Swank shots at Duffy but he fell short at the finish.  Brown rallied for third at the end, ahead of Buterbaugh and Bob Jay.  Buterbaugh and Chad Gambol won the heats.
In comparison to the other races in the show, the Pure Stock 15 lapper was rather tame until the last lap.. Travis Group ran off with the early lead, opening a gap on the field.  Brad Feight and Mike Duck battled for second spot until Feight got way sideways on lap 8.  Duck then took up the chase , noticeable closing with each passing lap in the all green event.
Duck caught Group as they took the white flag and the pair went side by side.  But they tangled in turn three with Group going around.  Duck then prevailed in the one lap shootout to take the win.  But Duck’s car failed the tech line and the win fell back to happy first timer Travis Vogel,  Dave Lambert in his first race back was second, followed by Feight, Greg Beckett and Group.  Feight and Beckett won the heats.
Eric Boozel brought the Acura for his first 2015 appearance at the track.  He went from 8th to first on the first lap then devastated the field.  But when the Acrua failed the tech line,  Happy Dacron Powell made it up to the stage.  Michael McDonald, Bailey Johnson, Tom Brady and Wayne Brenize were next.  Powell, Boozel and Josh Ringler won the heats.
