WEYANDT LEADS 5 DOLLAR NIGHT WINNERS AT BEDFORD

July 13th, 2024

Bedford Speedway ended the busiest section of the 2024 season, 4 events in 10 days, with the annual $5 night Friday.  Four happy winners emerged from the action including Devin Weyandt in the Limiteds, Travis Calhoun in the Semi Lates, Charlie Clise in the Pure Stocks and Isaac Komanski in the 4 Cylinder finale before the annual fireworks show thrilled the crowd.

Kaiden Bard jumped into the early Limited lead from his front row start.  Running the best race of his Bedford career, Bard pulled away from the slim field before a quick caution flew on lap 4.   Although heavy hitters and the top two in points lined up behind him, Devin Weyandt and Shawn Shoemaker, Bard again got away on the restart and continued to lead.

Weyandt chased Bard but was heavily challenged by Shoemaker as the pair fought for second as Bard got away.  As the laps wound down, both the chasers began to close on the leader and it soon became a three way battle at the front.

With two laps to go Shoemaker slid by Weyandt  and concentrated on Bard.  But on the last lap things changed violently as Shoemaker and Bard crashed together in turn four with Bard  heavily impacting the wall And causing a lengthy red flag.  Shoemaker also went to the pits at that time.

With a lot of drama removed, Weyandt was the new leader and easily ran off the last lap for the win.  Barry Miller was second ahead of  Matt Murphy.  There were no heats for the slim field.

Bill Replogle was the early Semi Late leader but he led a mob at the front.  Finally Travis Calhoun emerged from the gang and slid by Replogle on lap 4.   From that point on Calhoun ran at the front easily as the pack wrestled with Replogle.

At the finish, it was Calhoun with his first win in a long time, followed by Replogle, Kyle Deneen and  Greg Hainsey.    Replogle ran into some post race trouble and was DQed, moving the field forward one spot.  Kyle Weyandt and Calhoun won the heats.

Braydale Bauman led the Pure Stock race early.   He pulled away as a 6 car mob battled for the chance to race him.   Charlie Clise grabbed second on lap 3 and quicklyl closed on Bauman.  On lap 11 Bauman’s car noticeably began to slow and Clise rushed by for the lead.

Bauman’s night then went worse as he retired a lap later, moving Derick Hinish into second.  Hinish gave it a serious shot but Clise went on for the win,  Hinish, Darian Ritchey and Dalton Weyant trailed.   Chubby Childers and Kyle Beckett won the heats.

Josh Borland led the 4 Cylinder event early but Isaac Kormanski was closing fast.  Borland’s car began to smoke and slow slightly and Kormanski pounced for the lead on lap 9.   From that point on, although the pack closed in on him, he held on for the win.  Tom Brady, Chris Graybill,  and Colin Welsh trailed.  Todd Price and Kormanski won the heats.
