Late Model, Sprint Specials coming to Bedford

May 19th, 2013

The 2013 race season has gotten off to a fantastic start at the Fairgrounds with exciting racing and a full pit area at each event so far. Late Model point leader Matt Parks claimed a win in the first two shows with Justin Kann and Steve Campbell also taking main event wins.

The speedway will celebrate the Memorial Day Holiday with an exciting two race weekend planned. On Friday May 24th the holiday weekend kicks off with a special Late Model Sportsman 25 lap feature with $1000 to the winner. That night will also mark the first appearance of the PA Vintage Dirt Modifieds. The following Monday, Memorial Day, the Three State Flyers Late Models will take the track for the “Johnny Grum Tribute” The Late Models will be racing 35 laps with $3000 going to the winner. Last year Matt Parks took the win in the Memorial Day show in a thriller holding off invader Gregg Satterlee.

Racing action took a brief hiatus last weekend when rain showers claimed the URC Sprint special scheduled for May 10th. At the time the showers hit the speedway a full field of URC Sprinters was on hand with several more on the way to the track. The URC show has been rescheduled for Friday night June 21st, setting up a two race weekend with a visit to the Winchester, VA Speedway on Saturday night, June 22nd. Fans and competitors are reminded that rain checks from the May 10th rainout are good for any 2013 race with the exception of the Bedford Fair Race.

The Pa Posse 410 Sprinters return on Sunday night June 9th, for the second annual “Roy Morral Tribute” event. In the most recent 410 Sprint show at Bedford last August Greg Hodnett took the win. The sprinters will be competing in a 30 lap feature event with a $3500 to win, $300 to start purse on the line. The show will feature time trials, and an open tire rule for the sprints. This will be the first of two 410 Sprint events this season, with a visit on Sunday August 18th also scheduled.

The roar of racing comes to the Historic Bedford Fairgrounds every Friday night this summer. Additional information about all speedway events is available at www.bedfordspeedway.com.
