HERSH SCORES AGAIN AT BEDFORD

June 8th, 2024

Only a few weeks  after scoring his first career Bedford Limited win,  Clinton Hersh scored again Friday night, this one a dominating performance.        In other action on the annual kids night at the track,  Khi Swanger eeked out a Semi Late win, George Dixon prevailed in maybe the best ever EMod event at the track, Kyle Beckett took the Pure Stock win and recently unretired Tom Brady won the 4 Cylinder closer.

Matt Murphy took the Limited lead at the start ahead of Tim Snare and Ryan Sager.  But on only lap two, Snare and Sager bumped together with Snare bouncing off the front stretch wall and heading pitside.

With the action losing Snare and Sager recovering off speed,  Clinton Hersh entered the picture quickly,   He caught and then passed Murphy as the field completed lap 4 before the only caution of the event.

On that restart with only clean air ahead, Hersh literally ran off from the field.  Shawn Shoemaker secured second on lap 5 and at first closed slightly on Hersh for a few laps but as the race wound down he found himself beset by Devin Weyandt.

That pair battled for quite a few laps before Weyandt got by for second on lap 15,  But by then Hersh was long gone and scored the win 5 laps later.  Weyandt led Shoemaker across the line scoring second . George Dixon and Kaiden Bard rounded out the top 5,

Khi Swanger started 5th in the Semi Late event as early leader Travis Calhoun held off both Kyle Deneen and Greg Hainsey at the front.  Swanger joined that battle by lap 4.  Swanger got by Hainsey on lap 9 and Deneen a lap later.  He ran down Calhoun and made the pass for the lead on lap 13, holding that spot to the finish.

Calhoun took second at the line ahead of Brian Weyandt Jr, Deneen and Bob Jay,  Nick Bechtel and Jay won the heats.

Ridge Bookwalter and Brandon Hoover were the front row for the EMod event and they ran pretty much like that over the first 9 laps.    With Bookwalter on the inside and Hoover outside,  they each had the groove they preferred and ran equally, actually trading the official lead several times.

Behind them, Mike Altobelli and George Dixon ran in a similar side by side pattern inches away from them with Donnie Farlling right behind them forming a 5 car jam at the front.    Bookwalter finally inched ahead for good on lap 10 but Dixon  also got by Hoover just before the only caution in the event flew on lap 12.

On the restart,  Dixon slid by Bookwalter and took over, stretching out a lead to the finish.  As Dixon sped away over the last 8 laps,  Bookwalter found himself still under pressure as Farlling was there . every lap.    Bookwalter hung tough and held off Farlling to take second at the line ahead of Glen Elliott and Spike Moore.  Moore and Farlling won the heats.  Every single feature starter finished the event.

By comparison, Kyle Becket made his Pure Stock win look easy.  He got by both front row starters on lap one and led the distance,    Chubby Childers and Denver Dishong caught the leader but Beckett never wavered from the groove he needed and the trio ran in that order to the finish   Charlie Clise and Derek Hinish both came from deep in the field to complete the top 5 in the event which went all the way Green.  Dalton Weyant  borrowed the 8 car to start the feature and finished 6th.  Brook Bunn and Charlie Clise won the heats.

Tom Brady, who led but lost each of the last two 4 Cylinder events, finally finished one off as he took the evening closer event.  Brady took the initial lead and  never looked back.  Point leader Shawn Smith  finished second ahead of a race long battle among Todd Price, Chris Graybill and Colin Welsh.  Graybill and Welsh won the heats.

As the format on kids night at the track,  mobs of the kids scrambled for candy on the track at intermission.
