BEDFORD BEATS THE WEATHER SNOOK BEATS THE FIELD

May 17th, 2025

In spite of heavy week long rain including a race day shower Bedford prevailed and completed an entire show Friday night.  Lane Snook staged an exciting late race charge to claim the headline Limited Late Model event, his first ever Bedford win on a card which featured five first time 2025 winners

Like Snook, Ryan Sager scored his first ever Bedford Semi Late win with a dominating performance before Mike Altobelli took the Emod event in equally dominating form.  Denver Dishong won the Pure Stock event and Colin Welsh closed the evening by winning the 4 Cylinder feature

The Limited 20 lapper featured an all Walls front row but it was Clinton Hersh in front at the end of lap one.   Hersh pulled away until Shawn Shoemaker emerged in second on lap 4.  Once faced with open track, Shemaker closed noticeably on Hersh with each passing lap as the event went all green.

He was all over Hersh as the pair closed to lap Travis Fleegle on lap 11.   Fleegle instantly complicated things as he spun directly in front of both leaders forcing dramatically wild evasive measures

On the restart, Shoemaker was all over Hersh, but the caution had allowed Lane Snook to join in the fun. Lap after lap the front pair went at it with Snook looking on.  Hersh ran the cushion, actually banking off the turn one wall once but dove to the bottom on lap 16.  Shoemaker took the opportunity to roar around the outside for the lead and the pair ran up the back stretch together.

With the leaders occupied with each other, Snook shot by both in turn 4 and dramatically snatched the lead.   While Snook led the final 4 laps, Hersh and Shoemaker continued their battle before finishing in that order.   Devin Weyandt and Keith Walls completed the top 5.

Keith Walls and Snook won the heats.  Point leader Kyle Lear faced heartbreak in heat 2 as he heavily crashed against the turn 1 wall.   With his car severely damaged, he switched cars with teammate Ray Ciccarelli and started at the rear,  finishing ninth.

Unlike the action in the Limited event, Ryan Sager used a front row starting spot to dominate the Semi Late feature.   His large lead was shortened by several minor cautions but he shot away from the field each time.

John Miller chased Sager for the duration to take second followed by Rick Potter, Garrett Keifer and Chubby Childers.   Miller and Cody Jarvie won the heats.

Mike Altobelli returned to Bedford for his first 2025 visit and took up where he left off last year.    He got the lead at the start and ran off.  Mitch Thomas was closing on Altobelli until he banked off the wall on lap 11. From that point on Thomas fell back as Altobelli raced to a dominant win.

Thomas held on for second ahead of George Dixon, TJ Dehaven and Spike Moore.   Altobelli and Thomas won the heats.

Dominic Weyandt led the first Pure Stock lap but Charlie Clise took over on lap 2.  Clise held on as the next four cars battled.     Denver Dishong emerged from that battle to take second on lap nine, a move which was fortuitous as Clise lost a motor  4 laps later and ended his day.

Dishong held on through two late race cautions to secure the popular win by holding off a last lap threat from Kyle Beckett. Chubby Childers, Kai Swanger and Drake Troutman trailed.  Dishong and Childers won the heats.

Absolutely the best race of the night was the 4 Cylinder event.  Todd Price was the early leader but the mob on his tail grew with each passing lap.  With the race going all green, eventually six cars jockeyed for position and challenged Price.   Tension mounted on the last lap as the six cars caught three lapped cars.    Second place Tom Brady made a move on Price but the big mover in the confusion was third place runner Colin Welsh who found a hole and zipped through for the lead and the win.  Tyler Beckett and Welsh won the heats.
