RAIN DRAMA AND SURPRISES MARK BEDFORD FRIDAY ACTION

May 3rd, 2025

A late afternoon rain shower delayed but didn’t stop action at Bedford Friday and produced wild action and a few surprised winners.

Kenny Edkins started off the evening by scoring his first ever Bedford win in the annual Super Sportsman visit to the track, his first ever Bedford win.  Devin Weyandt and Dave Brown scored Limited and Semi Late wins after late race drama.  Chubby Childers dominated the Pure Stock event and  Scott Mitchell  closed the evening with a Crown Vic win.

It took two tries to get the Super Sportsman event underway.  On the second try, Kenny Edkinsl took the lead at the green flag and walked away from the field.  John Edkins took up the chase but Kenny pulled away over the first 17 all green flag laps.

The field got a second shot at Edkins  when Tim Barrick stopped on lap 17 but on the restart, Edkins again scooted away for the win.   Over the last three laps, Scott Dellinger edged around John Edkins to score second at the line, ahead of Edkins, Troy Rhome and Tony Jackson.  Rhome and Chris Meleason took the heats.

After starting deep in the field, Devin Weyandt was the surprise Limited winner after late race drama.  Pole sitter Kyle Hardy took the initial lead and got away from the field early.  As the laps progressed, Taylor Farlling began to close on the leader but he in turn was run down by Kyle Lear.

Things changed as the leaders encountered lapped traffic by lap 11.  Hardy zipped by but Farlling and Lear were not so lucky, resulting with a spin by Lear  in turn 1.   That gave the field a second look at Hardy but he again ran off at the green ahead of Farlling.

Hardy, again with a large lead, had a motor expire on lap 16  handing the lead to Farlling.    Devin Weyandt, who had started 9th in the field had moved up to second by then but Farlling ran off on the restart.

With certain victory in sight, Farlling suddenly pulled into the pits as they approached the white flag.   Weyandt, the surprised new leader, gladly led the last lap for the win.    Kyle Lear came from the back after his spin to take second at the line ahead of Bryan Benton who came from 12th, Keith Walls and Gunner Walls.   Hardy and Ray Ciccarelli won the heats.

Dave Brown led the first Semi Late lap but Rick Potter zoomed by on lap two.   After that Potter pulled out to a huge lead as the event went all green.  Brown held second but watched as the 15 easily pulled away.

But Potter shocked everyone as he pulled off with engine woes with two to go.   Brown gladly accepted the lead and held the last two laps for the win.   Travis Calhoun, who wrestled with Dalton Weyant and Brian Weyandt Jr for the duration took second ahead of them.  Spike Moore driving the famous #65, rallied from the last row to take fifth.   Potter and Cody Jarvie won the heats..

Compared to the previous events, Chubby Childers made his Pure Stock win look easy,  He started on the pole and led from the start.   Kyle Beckett charged into second on lap two but could only look at Childers back bumper for the duration., taking second at the lone.

Dominic Weyandt scored a best career finish at third, followed by Charlie Clise and Derrick Hinish.   Clise and Weyandt won the heats.

Early leader Scott Mitchell lost the lead to Raymond Moore early but rallied late to retake the lead and win the Crown Vic event ahead of Byler Aikey and Paul Crynock III.  Brennan Schroyer and Mitchell won the heats.  The first heat was halted spectacularly as Steve Singo wildly flipped on the back stretch.
