PIERCE CONTINUES HOT STREAK AT BEDFORD SPEEDWAY

July 12th, 2024

Bobby Pierce, winner of several high dollar races in the past few weeks, continued his hot streak as he dominated the World of Outlaws  event at Bedford Thursday night.  The win in the annual Billy Winn classic honoring the first ever winner at the track in 1936, was worth $15,000 to the Illinois driver and he became the 159th winner at the historic track.

In the companion EMod event, Spike Moore came from the pack and rallied late to score another 2024 win.

After the redraw, the Late Model event started with Brian Shirley and Bobby Pierce on the front row.  Shirley got the jump at the start but Pierce shot by on the back stretch to lead the first lap.    He then led every one of the 45 laps to score the win.

Running the high groove. Pierce pulled out to a substantial lead early and ran off from the field on each of the seven restarts. Behind him, although the first three or four strung out, action was hot and heavy as the 25 starters used the whole track surface battling.

A late caution with two laps to go closed the field once again, adding some late race drama, Pierce drew away once again to score the win over Brandon Sheppard,  Ryan Gustin and Gregg Satterlee

While the lead was rarely in doubt, many eyes were on the men on the move as Gregg Satterlee and Ryan Gustin , who started eighth and ninth slithered through the field.  Gustin rallied to take third at the line followed by Satterlee.  Even further back were Tyler Bruening and Dennis Erb who finished behind them.

Pierce was involved in a bit of post race drama as the yellow

flew as he took the checkered flag for a spinning car in turn one. Pierce, still going relatively fast could not slow down in time and lightly impacted the car which had fired up and was trying to get going.

At the finish, it was Pierce followed by Sheppard,  Gastin, Satterlee, Tyler Bruening  (who started 15th) and Dennis Erb, who had started 19th.  Earlier qualifying heats were won by Pierce, Cade Dillard, Sheppard and Brian Shirley.  Max McLaughlin and Jakob Piper took the last chance qualifiers.  Track provisional went to the high point man not in, Tim Smith, who rallied to 15th at the line.

Pole sitter George Beckett led the early EMod laps in an event which was marred by a grinding crash in turn three on lap three, resulting in a lengthy red flag period. Jonathan Taylor, Donnie Farlling and David Green were involved with all cars heavily damaged.

On the restart, George Dixon took over but Spike Moore was on the move.  Moore took over on lap 11 but Dixon got back by a lap later.   Not to be denied, Moore took the lead again on lap 14 and led to the finish.   Mike Altobelli got by late to take second, ahead of Dixon, Beckett and David Stremme,  Jonathan Taylor and Altobelli won the heats.
