Bedford Speedway’s June 2nd Appalachian Mountain Speedweek show to now pay $5,000 to win in memory of long time race supporter Gigs Foor.…The Ernie D’s Appalachian Mountain Speedweek in conjunction with Bedford Speedway and the family of Gigs Foor are honored to announce that on Friday night, June 2nd Bedford Speedway will play host to a tribute honoring the memory of the longtime race supporter. June 2nd marks the 25 Anniversary of his passing and his family members have gotten together to honor Gigs and the legacy he left on the area racing scene.
The Super Late Models who will be competing in the 3rd leg of their 9th annual Speedweek, will see an increase in the purse which will now see the winner of the 40-lap feature garner a cool $5,000. There will also be money spread back through the field. It doesn’t stop there, as Gigs was a fan of all types of racing and the family also wanted to make sure his legacy is honored throughout the entire program. Thanks to the Gigs Foor family, the Modifieds will be racing for $700 to win and the Pure Stocks will be battling for $350. As with the late models, extra cash will be spread through the field in these divisions also.
“This is an honor for us to be able to host this tribute” said Bedford promoter, Joe Padula. “Mr. Foor meant a lot to this sport in the time he was alive and when the family approached me about paying tribute to his memory, it was something Bedford Speedway certainly wanted to be involved with. There is so much history at these old Fairgrounds and a lot of that is due to the supporters just like Gigs Foor who helped shape racing into the sport we love. I hope everyone comes out on June 2nd and help us celebrate Mr. Foor’s legacy” added Pudula.
