This Friday night, July 14th the Bedford Speedway will be celebrating 81 years of racing at the Fairgrounds oval. An exciting night of racing is planned with the Super Late Models racing 50 laps joined by the Modifieds and Pure Stocks. The winner’s share of Friday night’s Classic purse is $8100, with $600 to take the green, as part of a $35,000 total purse.
Friday’s racing program is dedicated to the memory of Billy Winn, one of the top dirt racers of the 1930’s and the winner of the first auto race at the Bedford on September 5th 1936. Winn, a 2003 inductee of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville was one of the most outstanding racers of the depression era AAA circuit. Not limiting himself to dirt, Winn also competed eight times at the Indianapolis 500. Hosting its first race in 1936, Bedford is the oldest currently operating track in Pennsylvania, and one of the oldest in the country.
The following night our friends at Winchester Speedway will also be celebrating their 81st Anniversary with an identical $8100 to win 50 lap program. Between Bedford and Winchester there will be over $70,000 up for grabs for our area Late Model drivers this weekend.
The format for the Winn Classic will be the LM Speedweek group time trial format, drivers will time in their heat groups. K.R.S. Race Graphics will be sponsoring the $100 award for the fast timer . As is Bedford policy there are no driver entry fees for the show. Drivers take note that regular Bedford rules and regulations will be in effect for this week.
Gates Open Friday night at 5:00 with warmups at 7:00 and racing at 7:30. General admission is $25, kids 12 and under are free, with pit admission $35
Bedford Speedway hosted its first auto race on September 5th 1936, with Depression-era star Billy Winn taking the win. Over the past 81 years the track has hosted some of the greatest names in racing history. The track is located at the intersection of I-99 & US 30, with easy access from PA Turnpike exit 146, just blocks from beautiful downtown Bedford PA.

Bedford Fair Notes:
The Bedford County Fair Association will be presenting the 144th annual Bedford Fair Sweepstakes beginning on Sunday July 23rd, with the traditional Friday night show on July 28th.
Both Friday and Sunday shows will be complete regular Bedford programs (warmups, heats, features) for all divisions.
Sunday night July 23rd- Joe Ciski Tribute- Late Model Sportsman, Racesaver Sprints, PS, 4C
Friday night July 28th- Frank Dunkle Championship- LM, Mods, PS, SL
