Champions Saluted at Bedford Banquet

February 7th, 2014
The 2013 Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway racing season officially concluded Saturday night February 1st, with the Annual Awards Banquet at the Bedford Elks Club Ballroom. The top point’s finishers were recognized in the Super Late Model, Late Model Sportsman, Semi Late, Modified, Pure Stock and Four Cylinder divisions.

Track champions receiving their awards at the banquet were Matt Parks, Robbie Black, Bob Jay, Adam Daniels, Bill Replogle and Cale Martin.

After claiming four wins this year, including two in a row to start the season, 2014 was undoubtedly Matt Parks’ year at Bedford. This year was his first career championship at the Speedway. After starting the season out with two consecutive wins, Parks also took the victory on June 21st, when a crash after crossing the finish line forced him to walk to victory lane while his car arrived on the wrecker. His final win of the season was a dominating performance on July 14th with the Three State Flyers in town for the annual Milt Miller Classic.

Also winning his first career Bedford championship was Robbie Black, who took home the Late Model Sportsman honors. Black had a fantastic season winning five times in 2014, bringing his win total to 14, good enough for third all-time in the division. In a highly competitive division, Black managed to dominate, leading the points all season long.

Bob Jay claimed his sixth career title in the Semi Late division, adding to his already packed Bedford trophy case. Jay had two wins this season, bringing his career total to 28, good enough for first all-time in the Semi Late ranks. After announcing his retirement during the season, Bill Replogle went on to claim his second career Pure Stock championship. Replogle’s year included four wins, including a win in his final start at Fall Fest. His four wins this season bring his total to 13, leaving him third all-time in the record books. Always a class act and a wonderful competitor, Replogle will be missed at the track this season.

The e-mods were introduced to the speedway this season, starting out with a respectable four cars in the spring. As car counts grew all season long the future of the division looks bright at Bedford. Adam Daniels claimed the e-mod title, with a consistent season making him the only champion this year who did not claim a victory. Another driver winning his first Bedford championship this season was Cale Martin in the Four Cylinders. Cale took home four wins along with his title in his second year of racing at Bedford.
