2019 Racing Season Notes:

February 19th, 2019

Racers notes and some things of interest regarding the upcoming Bedford racing season which kicks off officially on Friday April 5th with our 83rd Anniversary Opening Day.

Annual Car Show: The spring racecar show will again be held in conjunction with the Bedford Home Garden & Lifestyle Show on Sunday April 7th. The Home & Garden Show takes place Saturday & Sunday all day at the Jordan Building on the fairgrounds. The car show portion of the event will take place on Sunday from Noon to 3pm. All racers are welcome to bring their cars out to the show on Sunday to meet and greet with their fans. Following the car show there will be open track sessions available to all racers from 3pm to 6pm. This is a great opportunity for drivers to show off their cars and meet their fans, as well as to gain on track practice time.

Fan Special Nights: This year the speedway will be hosting two $5.00 admission races. The first will be a Sunday Special on April 28th, with the second scheduled on the Friday night August 2nd, after the fair. Both nights will feature a full night of racing. For the 13th season in a row prices for regular Friday night admission for the pits and grandstands will remain the same, and as always kids 12 and under are admitted free to the grandstands. The annual speedway Kids Night will be on Friday June 7th, with kid’s car rides, kids candy toss, games and giveaways, as well as a full night of racing action. Fans will also be able to meet the drivers and check out the cars up close on Friday June 28th during our pre-race car show where drivers will be able to park their cars on the midway for autographs and pictures.

Bedford Fair Racing: Again this season, there will be two nights of racing at the 146th Annual Bedford Fair, with Sunday and Friday racing events planned. There will be four divisions racing each night, with a full racing program of heats and features for each division. The Sunday July 21st Opening Day at the Fair will honor the life and driving career of the late Elmer Ruby. Ruby, known as the Artemas Charger, drove a modified and a sprint car throughout the region with wins at numerous tracks. On Sunday night the Late Model Sportsman, Racesaver Sprints, Pure Stocks & Four Cylinders will be in competition. Friday night’s Fair racing program will feature the Late Models, Modifieds, Semi Lates & Pure Stocks in action.

Late Model Special Events: As has been tradition for over 50 years, the Late Models will headline Friday night racing at Bedford. In addition to their regular the slate of weekly racing, the Late Models are scheduled for several marquee events. The month of May begins with the $8300 to win, 50 lap, Billy Winn Classic on Friday night May 3rd. Bedford will again partner with several of the local tracks as part of the KRS Graphics Super Late Model Challenge in early June. The four race series of $3000 to win events at Bedford, Port Royal, Williams Grove & Selinsgrove will crown a champion and pay out point fund, along with bonus money and contingencies. The overall champion of the series will earn a guaranteed spot in the season ending Keystone Cup. The 32nd Annual Labor Day Classic 55 lapper will see an increased purse this year paying $7055 to win on August 30th. This year’s Labor Day 55, will welcome the United Late Model Series Tour for the first time to the speedway. The biggest race of the season will again be the $15,000 to win Keystone Cup on September 27th & 28th. This year the Keystone Cup will feature an increased purse, with each of the Friday night qualifying features also receiving payouts.
