GREAT BEDFORD FAIR OPENS WITH SUNDAY SHOW

July 25th, 2022

The 148th Bedford Fair opened with a bang Sunday night and four happy feature winners graced the stage.  Spike Moore came from deep in the field and rallied late to grab a decisive win in the headline Limited Late Model event.  Evan Taylor, denied a win the previous week held off Mike Altobelli to take the EMod win.   Kyle Beckett took the Pure Stock event before  Derek Long  finished the evening with a 4 Cylinder win.

Shawn Shoemaker blasted to the early Limited  lead. He pulled away early as Clinton Hersh chased him.  But Hersh was soon challenged by  Spike Moore, who took over second on lap 7.  Once in second,  Moore started closing on Shoemaker and Hersh tagged along.

The pair had caught Shoemaker  by the time they hit a knot of lapped traffic on lap 8.  Moore guessed right and found his way through the gang to take the lead,  just as a caution flew.  on lap 8.   In the confusion, Hersh banked off the wall but did not lose the spot.

As the lead pair ran together, Matt Parks knifed his way through the field to third, but did not present a challenge to the leaders,  Moore held on for the win, ahead of Hersh Parks, Devin Weyandt and Shoemaker.   Shoemaker and Kyle Lear won the heats.

Beau Aikey was the early EMod leader.   Evan Taylor chased him down and gave him a serious challenge, actually getting  by for the lead after Aikey rubbed the wall on lap 7.  But that move was erased as the caution flew before the completion of the lap and Aikey was back in front.

Taylor resumed his chase on the restart,  but found himself under attack from Mike Altobelli.  Taylor got by for the lead a few laps later and Altobelli trailed.   Altobelli got by for the lead on lap 16, but the same rule that went against Taylor earlier this time worked in his favor as the lap was interrupted when Aikey slammed the wall harder and the  caution flew.

Over the last 4 laps, Taylor held sway, easily beating Altobelli to the line,  George Dixon, Drake Troutman and Jonathan Taylor trailed.  Troutman and Dixon won the heats,

The Pure Stock event was the usual mobfest as ten equally matched cars ran at the front.  Kyle Beckett grabbed the lead at the start and fended off repeated challenges from Denver Dishong before he took the win.   Derek Hinish meticulously worked his way up to take third at the line ahead of Kevin Weyandt and Charlie Clise.   Hinish and Kyle Deneen won the heats.

The 4 Cylinder night cap started with a bang.  The back half of the field balled up before they got to the green,  resulting in a wild nine car pileup and red flag.    On the restart,  Derek Long was the leader, soon joined by brother Dalton.  The pair ran in that order, fending off all challengers , ending up with a Long sweep at the front.  Behind Derek and Dalton, Shawn Smith,  Todd Price and Jay Talley completed the top 5  Isaac Komarinski and Colin Welsh won the heats.
