JACKSON,  RITCHEY AND PARKS BEDFORD SUNDAY STARS

July 11th, 2022

Tony Jackson, in his first Bedford visit in 15 years, figured it out quickly and scored the big win in Super Sportsman action Sunday night.   In other action, Matt Parks rallied late to take the Limited Late model event before Drew Ritchey  dominated the 305 sprint race.

Trent Yoder was the pole sitter and early Sportsman leader. with Steve Wilbur in hot pursuit as the pack strung out.    Eighth starter Tony Jackson didn’t appear to be a factor until he decided to test the Bedford cushion and started the rush forward.   Jackson began picking off one car at a time and was up to fourth when the first caution flew on  lap ten.

On the restart, Jackson again went up to the cushion and slipped by  Wilbur  on lap 12.     It took two more laps to  snatch the lead , but after that Jackson pulled away to score the big win.  Yoder and Wilbur railed the winner after their race long battle.  Bob Gutshall and Michael Smith trailed.

Yoder and Jackson won the heats.   Heat race action was spiced up as  Kevin Gutshall managed to flip wildly in turn one.

Drew Ritchey after a brief retirement from 305 racing, returned with a vengeance.  He roared by early leader  Jay Fry and never looked back.   He held a six second lead by the time of the first caution on lap 10 and roared away from the field again over the last ten laps.

Jake Waters followed Ritchey through the field early and was able t take second at the line ahead of Garrett Bard, who started tenth.    Austin Reed and  Brad Mellott completed the top 5.  Steve Kenawell and Waters won the heats.

Shawn Shoemaker led the Limited event early but Matt Parks roared into the picture.  After chasing Shoemaker for several laps,  Parks went to the outside and  blasted by on lap ten.   After that Parks ran off leaving Shoemaker to battle Clinton Hersh  to secure his spot.

Shoemaker was successful in holding off Hersh for second .  Hersh,  Devin Weyandt and Trent  Brenneman trailed.     Weyandt and Shoemaker won the heats.
