Anthony Macri dropped into Bedford and completely dominated the All Star sprint car event at the track Sunday night. The win in the Junior Ritchey tribute event was his second career Bedford win and second in a row after winning the AllStar 2021 visit to the track.
After setting third fast time, Macri took second in his qualifying heat, then showed everyone how ready he was for racing as he came from fifth to easily win the dash and gain the pole position for the 30 lap feature. He got the drop on fellow front row starter Bill Balog and ran off from the field.
Fast timer Justin Peck took second on the first lap but could not catch Macri. even as they weaved in and out of heavy lapped traffic. Balog rallied late to retake second from Peck on lap 21 but Macri was long gone. When the only caution of the event flew on lap 23, Peck headed into the pits but was saved by an All Star mandated fuel stop.
The restart after that red flag period was the last that that chasers saw Macri. Tyler Courtney moved into second just after the lap 23 restart, but Macri was not to be challenged.
Over the last 7 laps, Macri put almost 2 seconds over the field as he sealed the win. Courtney, Sye Lynch, Mike Wagner and Gio Scelzi trailed. Peck returned after the red flag delay and moved up to ninth at the finish 17 of the starters were around to see the finish in the smoothly run race,
In qualifying, Peck had set fast time at 16.8. Mike Wagner, Tyler Courtney and Balog won the heats. Macri took the dash.
In the Crate EMod event, Steve Axtell led pole to pole in the 12 lap event which ran the 12 lap distance all green. He was followed by Bill Vanmeter, Ryan Dolan and Kevin Van Horn. Every single single starter finished the event. Vanmeter and Axtel won the heats,
