BERNHEISEL BAGS BEDFORD

August 13th, 2022

Thirty four years after his famous father won at Bedford, Bryan Bernheisel grabbed the Late Model feature win at the track Friday night.  He became the 152nd different Late Model winner at the historic venue and, with his father, the 14th different son/father combination to take Bedford wins.

In other action, Jonathan Taylor pounced late to take the EMod win, Jesse Snyder won his second Semi Late feature in the last three weeks and Dalton Ritchey took the Pure Stock event.  The 4Cylinders, in honor of their 200th Bedford event, ran twin features and Todd Price and Javid Fairall split the wins.

The Late Model 25 lapper started out with a bang as the front row, consisting of pole starter Nathan Lasalle and Tim Smith collided heavily in turn one with both cars heavily damaged, although Lasalle did return to action after pit repairs.

With the lineup adjusted. Bryan Bernheisel found  himself on the front row and he made the best of his good fortune.  He zipped by fellow front row starter Jeff Miller and ran away from the field over the first 12 laps.     Everyone got a look at the leader during that lap 12 caution,  which  featured 2022 point champion Jeff Rine in second, but Bernheisel repeated his runaway act again.

On the restart  Bernheisel ran away from Rine, who spent several laps in defense of his position from Drake  Troutman   Rine recovered to close slightly on Bernheisel over the late laps, But Bernheisel took the win by almost 4 seconds.  Rine, Troutman,  Miller and Chuck Clise completed the top 5.  Clise came from a dead last starting position after a earlier heat race crash.   Troutman and Tim Smith won the heats.

Brandon Hoover was the early EMod leader with Drake Troutman in hot pursuit.   Troutman got by Hoover on lap 5,  but their  battling had allowed Jonathan Taylor to close in on the front battle.  Taylor cleared Hoover on lap nine and began chopping away at Troutman.

After following Troutman for several laps,  Taylor’s big break came when Troutman  overshot the runway on lap 15.  Taylor pounced and shot by for the lead, rushing on to the win.  Behind Taylor and Troutman at the finish were Hoover, George Beckett, who had started dead last in the field, and Travis Cottle.

After having taken a year off, Jesse Snyder continued his late season rush with another Semi Late victory.   Laura Chamberlain was the early leader but she drew a crowd at the front.   Snyder managed to thread his way through the gang into second and successfully made the pass on Chamberlain on lap 8.  Snyder, with open track ahead managed to pull away from the mob over the last half of the event to score the win.

Chamberlain running her best race of the 2022 season, kept the gang at bay, scoring second at the line, ahead of Nick Bechtel, Bill Replogle and  Brian Weyandt Jr.  Greg Hainsey and Bechtel won the heats.

Like the Late Model event, the Pure Stock  race started off with a bang  as pole  sitter Cody Jarvie got sideways in front of the field entering turn one, creating 17 car chaos and a Jarvie flip  After the extended red flag period,  Dalton Ritchey  got the drop on the field at the restart and led the distance.

Ritchey could not shake the  hound dogs though as the top four ran in a pack with the other three swapping spots behind him.  A last lap caution set up a wild finish as Derek Hinish made one last effort, but he fell short as Ritchey took the win.   Dalton Weyant, Denver Dishong and Charlie Clise completed the top 5.  Hinish and Deshong won the heats.

The 4 Cylinders ran a special twin 10 lap format.  The first feature was a crashfest as it took 11 caution periods to complete.  Dalton Long led early but Todd Price got be and held through the mayhem to score the win.  Darren Howsare, Long, Shawn Smith and Chris Graybill completed the top five.

Important in the first feature was in the pack as Javid Fairall grabbed the ninth spot on the last lap.   When first event winner Price drew to invert nine in feature 2,  Fairall was the pole sitter and led the distance.   In the opposite of the first run, the nightcap ran smoothly with Howsare again taking second, ahead of Smith, Derek Long and Graybill.  Smith and Gratbill won the heats.
