RINE TAKES THE CUP AT BEDFORD

  Although Friday qualifying was dominated by speedway visitors,  track regular Jeff Rine defended the home turf by grabbing the Keystone Cup at Bedford Saturday night. after starting deep in the field.   The win was his fourth of the season and the 26th of his career at the track in the potent Bob Elbin owned car.   The 60 lap romp was worth $15,000 to the team.  In other action, In other action, Greg Moore dominated the Limited Late Model event and first time visitor Casey Fritz, came from Zanesville Ohio to close the season with a EMod win.

    Friday’s dash winner Austin Hubbard  brought the potent field to the green and took the first lap lead in the event.  Ross Robinson chased Hubbard early ahead of Tyler Bare and Amanda Whaley.   Robinson caught Hubbard and after several laps of close action, he took the lead on lap 12.  When the first caution of the race occurred  a lap later for a slowing Kyle Lear,  Rine was still buried in the pack, running tenth. DELAWARE DRIVERS SWEEP KEYSTONE CUP QUALIFYING

   Opening night of the first annual Keystone Cup event at Bedford featured a great field of cars, lots of action, and an unusual list of top qualifiers.    Austin Hubbard set fast time in qualifications, and Ross Robinson and Amanda Whaley won the two qualifying Semi features before Hubbard took the Dash and will start on the pole for the big 60 lap event.   Interestingly, every racer who finished first in an event came to Bedford from the first state, Delaware.  

     In addition to Late Model qualifying, the Semi Lates and Pure Stocks ran complete events.    Brian Weryandt Jr survived some mid race fender wrinkling and a mad last lap charge from Bob Jay to take the Semi Late win.   Josh Frankenberry struck early and dominated the Pure Stock evening closer. FIVE WINNERS AT BEDFORD FALLFEST

     Bedford Speedway’s penultimate 2018 event, the annual Fallfest produced five happy winners Sunday night.  Clinton Hersh led the parade of winners with his conquest in the 25 lap Limited headliner.  Travis Calhoun was the surprise last lap Semi Late victor before Jonathan Taylor, Nick Bechtel, and Todd Price took EMod, Pure Stock and 4 Cylinder wins.

    Clinton Hersh was the Limited pole sitter and he took off at the start ahead of George Dixon.   Justin Weaver charged around Dixon for second on lap three, just before the last caution of the event flew a lap later Read more »

SEVEN BIG WINNERS AT BEDFORD HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA

    Bedford ended up the regular season and point season in a big way Sunday night as early season rainout makeup events forced a big seven feature program Sunday night.   It was a night to remember for two driver as they scored Bedford career first wins in Mason Dixon Limited action, Devin Hart and Brian Shuey.  Jeff Miller and Jonathan Jones scored career second Bedford wins in the 305 events, while Bob Jay and Tom Warren scored semi Late wins before Dustin Kinser ended the evening with a 4 Cylinder conquest

    Shawn Jones started the first Limited event, a makeup from August 17, on the pole.He made the best of his good luck and ran off from the field early.  Behind him, the pack was competitive as Devin Hart (from sixth) and Justin Weaver (from 11th) sliced through the field. Read more »

BEDFORD TRIES BUT LOSES TO THE WEATHER

  For the third consecutive event, Bedford Speedway officials dared the weather man, but this time the victory was only partial.   With all the heats complete and the fields qualified, rain appeared just as the visiting URc racers were lining up for their feature, postponing the remainder of the program.  

   Before the rain hit, all ten qualifying events were completed.  Those winners were Bill Replogle and Jesse Snyder (SL), Josh Wellar and Josh Whitall (URC),  Greg Moore, Mike Walls  and Shaun Jones  (Limited) and Jeff Miller, Dylan Shatzer and Steve Kennewell (305)

All the feature events will be made up at a future date yet to be determined.

SMITH AND LYNN SCORE BEDFORD SUNDAY WINS

   For the second time over the weekend, Bedford defied ominous weather predictions and completed an entire program.  Among the happy winners was Kadden Smith, who scored his career first track Limited win with a dramatic last lap move.  Other winners were Ryan Lynn in the 305 sprints, Bob Jay in the Semi Lates and Wayne Brenize in the 4 cylinder closer,

    Clinton Hersh was the Limited pole sitter and streaked off to the early lead.  Over the first half of the event he pulled out to a substantial lead over Kadden Smith as the field strung out.  As the race crossed the half way point still caution free,  Smith began noticeable closing a bit on the lead Hersh had built up.    Read more »

BARE BAGS BEDFORD BIGGIE

    With the most dominating performance in recent years, Tyler Bare took the big 35 lap Late Model event at Bedford Friday night.  The win was worth $3000 to the fleet Virginian and was his first win ever at Bedford.  He became the 141st different Late Model at the track, the sixth to win in the famous 43A, and, with his famous father, the tenth second generation Late Model winner at the track.  In other action, big 2018 winners Jesse Snyder, Mike Altobelli Jr and Denny Pittman continued their winning ways in Semi Late Emod and Pure Stock events.

    Ignoring predictions of inclement weather, Bare and the 43A team towed to Bedford for the 35 lap event.   An afternoon rain forced a late start to the festivities but helped create a smooth and blindingly fast surface.   Read more »

BLACK TAKES BEDFORD FAIR SWEEPSTAKES

Before a huge fair week crowd, Robby Black scored the big Late Model win at Bedford Friday night.   Long time a fixture in area Limited racing, it was Black’s first ever Bedford Late Model win.  He became the 140th different winner at the track’s long history.

    After the Sunday rain out of the scheduled first night of fair racing, extra divisions were added to the Friday program, making a five division extravaganza.  Justin Weaver put up a furious challenge on the track and then won the Limited event in the tech line.  Drake Troutman won the Emod event, Bob Jay claimed the Semi Late event and Denny Pittman closed out the evening with a Pure Stock win. HUBBARD TAKES BEDFORD ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

    Austin Hubbard played a waiting game for 45 laps before rising to win the big 82nd anniversary event at Bedford Friday night.   It was the third career Bedford triumph, all coming in special events, but his first in over five years at the track.  It was worth $8300 to the Delaware racer.  In other action, big 2018 winners Mike Altobelli and Josh Frankenberry won the accompanying EMod and Pure Stock events.

     After the pill draw for the lineup,  Alex Ferree and Nathan Lasalle brought the Late Model field to the green.  Ferree shot ahead at the start and immediately displayed dominance over the field.  Ross Robinson got by Lasalle for second on lap 4 and sixth starter Austin Hubbard followed him by into third on lap 5.  Huibbard got by Robinson  on lap 7 and the group ran in that order at the front until one of the most bizarre events in Bedford History occurred on lap 11. RITCHEY AND MCGINNIS BANK BEDFORD SUNDAY WINS

    Brad McGinnis scored a first ever Bedford feature win as he took the Mason Dixon Limited event at the track Sunday night in dominating fashion.  Equally dominating but not a first was Drew Ritchey, who won the companion 305 event.  Ritchey is the Bedford leading feature winner among various limited sprint car events.  Josh Frankenberry went flag to flag to score the Charlie Walter Memorial event in Pure Stock action, before Dustin  Kinser took the 4 Cylinder finale, his first win in five seasons.

    McGinnis got by pole sitter Devin Hart to lead the first Mason Dixon lap, and  held off Hart through several early chaotic caution periods.  Justin Weaver was charging through the pack though, finally showing up in second place on lap six.   He was all over McGinnis for several laps but failed to get by.
