SPONAUGLE STARS AT THE BEDFORD FAIR

Only a few weeks after losing to Kyle Lee after a late race pass, Matt Sponaugle held off Lee to take a popular Late Model win at Bedford Friday night.  The win, part of the 150th Great Bedford Fair, was part of the Gary Martz Memorial event and was worth $3700 to the winner.  It was Sponaugle’s first win at the track in over two years.

In other action before the huge fair crowd were Kyle Deneen in the Semi Lates, Kyle Beckett in the Pure Stocks and Wayne Brenize in the 4 Cylinder finale.

When original pole sitter Clinton Hersh failed to answer the call, the Late Model front row became Matt Sponaugle and Tim Smith.  Sponaugle got the jump at the start and motored away to a large early lead. Read more »

WEYANDT LEADS 5 DOLLAR NIGHT WINNERS AT BEDFORD

Bedford Speedway ended the busiest section of the 2024 season, 4 events in 10 days, with the annual $5 night Friday.  Four happy winners emerged from the action including Devin Weyandt in the Limiteds, Travis Calhoun in the Semi Lates, Charlie Clise in the Pure Stocks and Isaac Komanski in the 4 Cylinder finale before the annual fireworks show thrilled the crowd.

Kaiden Bard jumped into the early Limited lead from his front row start.  Running the best race of his Bedford career, Bard pulled away from the slim field before a quick caution flew on lap 4.   Although heavy hitters and the top two in points lined up behind him, Devin Weyandt and Shawn Shoemaker, Bard again got away on the restart and continued to lead. PIERCE CONTINUES HOT STREAK AT BEDFORD SPEEDWAY

Bobby Pierce, winner of several high dollar races in the past few weeks, continued his hot streak as he dominated the World of Outlaws  event at Bedford Thursday night.  The win in the annual Billy Winn classic honoring the first ever winner at the track in 1936, was worth $15,000 to the Illinois driver and he became the 159th winner at the historic track.

In the companion EMod event, Spike Moore came from the pack and rallied late to score another 2024 win.

After the redraw, the Late Model event started with Brian Shirley and Bobby Pierce on the front row.  Shirley got the jump at the start but Pierce shot by on the back stretch to lead the first lap.    He then led every one of the 45 laps to score the win. Read more »

BERNHEISEL RALLIES LATE FOR BEDFORD WIN

Although Clinton Hersh dominated the first half of the event, Bryan Bernheisel rallied late and scored a dominating win in Late Model action at Bedford Friday night.

 

In other action, Chad Thomas scored his first ever Bedford win in the wingless Super Sportsman event, Chubby Childers scored a last lap win in the Pure Stock Charlie Walter special, Mike Altobelli took yet another EMod win and Wayne Brenize won the 4 Cylinder closer. Read more »

HART, WEAVER AND SWANGER SCORE AT BEDFORD

Bedford  ran a rare Wednesday event for the Independence Day holiday and it produced three happy winners, one a delighted first timer.  Khi Swanger, on a roll lately, scored a wild last lap win in Semi Late action, Devin Hart took the Limited event and Kasey Weaver completed the evening with his first ever 305 feature win.

After a wild crashfest in the prior event, the Semi Late event went the first  14 laps caution free.  Pole sitter Kyle Deneen took off at the start and built up a commanding lead over a wild six car battle for second. Khi Swanger got himself involved in that mob, running the bottom groove as others ran the outside. Read more »

KYLE LEE SCORES HISTORIC BEDFORD WIN

On a historic night at the Bedford Speedway as the facility presented the 900th racing event in its 86th year in action, Kyle Lee thrilled the crowd with a dramatic last turn pass to claim the Late Model headliner, Rick Potter also rallied late to claim the wild Semi Late event as did Derrick  Hinish in Pure Stock action and Josh Corbin in the 4 Cylinder closer.  In the visiting Super Sportsman event, Trent Yoder came from dead last in the slim field to score his first ever win.

2024 hard luck racer Matt Sponaugle took off from the front row in the 25 lap late model event.  He pulled away from Brian Bernheisel in the early laps in the all green flag event.  But Bernheisel found himself under attack from Jakob Piper as Tim Smith, Jeff Rine and Kyle Lee waged their own battle behind that pair. HERSH SCORES AGAIN AT BEDFORD

Only a few weeks  after scoring his first career Bedford Limited win,  Clinton Hersh scored again Friday night, this one a dominating performance.        In other action on the annual kids night at the track,  Khi Swanger eeked out a Semi Late win, George Dixon prevailed in maybe the best ever EMod event at the track, Kyle Beckett took the Pure Stock win and recently unretired Tom Brady won the 4 Cylinder closer.

Matt Murphy took the Limited lead at the start ahead of Tim Snare and Ryan Sager.  But on only lap two, Snare and Sager bumped together with Snare bouncing off the front stretch wall and heading pitside.  Read more »

RUSS MITTEN SCORES BEDFORD SUPER SPORTSMAN WIN

Long time Super Sportsman veteran Russ Mitten added another notch on his career as he grabbed his first ever Bedford Speedway win in Friday night action at the track.

Only a few months removed from his first ever Limited win, Shawn Shoemaker took his second win  before Spike Moore also took his  second career EMod win.  Charlie Clise came from deep in the field to win the Pure Stock event and defending champion Josh Corbin closed the program with a 4 Cylinder  win. YODER BAGS BEDFORD BUCKS AT BURKET MEMORIAL

Occasional visitor Andrew Yoder drifted into Bedford Speedway and made off with the big win in the annual Turk Burket Memorial Friday night.  The win in the potent  Larry Baer owned 0 car was his first ever Bedford Late Model win and was worth $4000 for the team.

In other action.  Johnny Smith  made a dominating run in the 305 sprints,  and Devin Weyant took the Semi Late win before Dalton Weyant took the Pure Stock closer.

The 35 lap late Model event got off to a rocky start as much of the back half of the field balled up on the first lap eliminating several from the event. Read more »

BEDFORD BEATS THE RAIN; HERSH BEATS THE FIELD

With rain all around the area, including a short rain delay at the track, Bedford completed another program Friday.  Among the happiest racers were Clinton Hersh and Darian Ritchey who each took their first ever Bedford wins in Limited and Pure Stock events.

.   In other  action, Brian Weyant Jr scored the Semi Late win,  Mike Altobelli took the EMod win and Javid Fairall  grabbed the 4 Cylinder finale.

Clinton Hersh, who has spent  time  in both Limited  and Late Model action at the track brought his Limited for the show and aced the field.  He grabbed the lead at the start and ran off from the field over the first few laps.    Although slowed by a few early cautions he zoomed away from the field on each restart.  Read more »
