Greg Hainsey, after losing a heart breaker earlier in the season, returned to score his first win of 2019 in Friday night Semi Late action at Bedford. In other action Drew Ritchey, Wayne Brenize, Nick Bechtell and Jonathan Taylor were all repeat winners.
Drew Ritchey drew a front row starting position in the 305 event and made the best of his luck. After a first lap of side by side action with pole starter Brad Mellott, Ritchey emerged with the lead and never looked back. Read more »
Mason Zeigler made one of his infrequent Bedford visits pay off in a big way as he scored a convincing win Friday night at the track. The event, 50 laps in memory of Bedford’s first ever feature winner Billy Winn, went for 50 laps and was worth $8300 to Zeigler in respect to the 83rd anniversary of the track’s opening. It was Zeigler’s first ever Bedford win.
In other action Travis Calhoun fought his way to the front late to score the Semi Late win before Josh Frankenberry did the same to claim Pure Stock honors.
Mason Zeigler, who has started several Bedford events with negligiible luck, was clearly the star of the 50 lap Late Model event. He finished second in his heat, drew the pole for the event, got the drop on the field at the start and never looked back. Read more »
As has been the 2019 custom, it rained on raceday at Bedford, but the track crew prevailed to present the second day of the Memorial Day celebration at the track. Devin Weyandt completely dominated the Limited Late Model headliner, Tyler Denochick took his first 305 win at the track and Evan Taylor survived the EMod slugfest.
In other action, Josh Ringer won the 4 Cylinder event while Chris Chamberlain won the Crate Mod finale
Devin Weyandt started on the pole in the Limited 25 lapper and was never challenged. Devin Frey chased him for the duration but watched as Weyandy easily pulled away from the field. George Dixon and Clinton Hersh battled for third, trading the spot several times before Dixon prevailed at the finish. Donnie Farling came from the pack to complete the top five. Bedford Speedway was blessed with the first dry race day of 2019 Friday night and Gregg Satterlee responded with the big Late Model win. The event was the annual tribute for Johnny Grum and Turk Burket, two Bedford legends triple 35s. It was Satterlee’s third career Bedford win and first since a win in this event in 2015.
Other events on the triple 35 lap card saw complete opposites in Victory Lane as Semi Late career win leader Bob Jay took that feature while young second generation driver Kyle Deneen won his first ever Pure Stock event.
Defending track champion Jeff Rine drew the pole for the Late Model race seeking his third Bedford win in a row, but it was Satterlee with the lead at the completion of the first lap. It took two shots to get the race started and several early race yellows occurred, but Satterlee was clearly in charge ahead of Rine and Andy Haus. Read more »
Jeff Rine started 2019 the way he ended 2018 at Bedford as he cruised to the big win in the first Late Model event of the season. It was his 27th career win at the track, tying him with Gary Stuhler for third on the all time win list. Joining Rine in Victory Circle was David Stremme, who came from North Carolina and devastated the talent loaded Renegades Modified field.
In other action, Bob Jay led the distance for the Semi Late victory and Ryan Peer rallied late to claim the 4 Cylinder finale
Jeff Rine and Matt Sponaugle were the front row starters in the Late Model 25 lapper, and Sponaugle got the jump at the start. Sponaugle led Rine and third place runner Andy Haus easily as the field was slowed several times for minor incidents in the early laps, the oddest of which occurred on a lap 7 restart as Justin Kann hit the restart cone and ended up dragging the long cone rope until he was sent to the pits. Although it rained for the eighth consecutive Friday in Bedford, this time it cleared off in time for the Bedford Speedway to get the first Friday program of the 2019 season completed. Chad Layton and Josh Weller were the big winners in the double URC events, one which was itself a rain makeup event from 2018. Matt Parks went pole to pole to score his first Bedford Limited win in several years while Nick Bechtel took the Pure Stock event, and Jonathan Taylor rallied late to capture the Emod 20 lapper
Josh Weller started on the pole and wired the field, seemingly on his way to an easy win in the URC event. Over the first 21 all green flag laps he opened up almost a half lap lead on second place Chad Layton and third runner Curt Michael. Read more »
It took seven tries but the Bedford Speedway finally got the 2019 season opener completed Sunday night. Robby Black, after a season off from Limited action, resumed form and romped to the big opening night victory. Joining Black were Drew Ritchey in the 305 sprint event, Bill Replogle in the Semi Late race and Wayne Brenize in the 4 Cylinder nightcap. Robby Black, the leading active Limited event winner at Bedford made a headline statement that he is back in form. He blasted by pole sitter George Dixon at the start and wired the field in the 20 lapper. Clinton Hersh came from sixth to second in wild first lap action but never made a dent on the leader’s distance. Read more »
Although Friday qualifying was dominated by speedway visitors, track regular Jeff Rine defended the home turf by grabbing the Keystone Cup at Bedford Saturday night. after starting deep in the field. The win was his fourth of the season and the 26th of his career at the track in the potent Bob Elbin owned car. The 60 lap romp was worth $15,000 to the team. In other action, In other action, Greg Moore dominated the Limited Late Model event and first time visitor Casey Fritz, came from Zanesville Ohio to close the season with a EMod win.
Friday’s dash winner Austin Hubbard brought the potent field to the green and took the first lap lead in the event. Ross Robinson chased Hubbard early ahead of Tyler Bare and Amanda Whaley. Robinson caught Hubbard and after several laps of close action, he took the lead on lap 12. When the first caution of the race occurred a lap later for a slowing Kyle Lear, Rine was still buried in the pack, running tenth. Read more »
Opening night of the first annual Keystone Cup event at Bedford featured a great field of cars, lots of action, and an unusual list of top qualifiers. Austin Hubbard set fast time in qualifications, and Ross Robinson and Amanda Whaley won the two qualifying Semi features before Hubbard took the Dash and will start on the pole for the big 60 lap event. Interestingly, every racer who finished first in an event came to Bedford from the first state, Delaware.
In addition to Late Model qualifying, the Semi Lates and Pure Stocks ran complete events. Brian Weryandt Jr survived some mid race fender wrinkling and a mad last lap charge from Bob Jay to take the Semi Late win. Josh Frankenberry struck early and dominated the Pure Stock evening closer. Bedford Speedway’s penultimate 2018 event, the annual Fallfest produced five happy winners Sunday night. Clinton Hersh led the parade of winners with his conquest in the 25 lap Limited headliner. Travis Calhoun was the surprise last lap Semi Late victor before Jonathan Taylor, Nick Bechtel, and Todd Price took EMod, Pure Stock and 4 Cylinder wins.
