PENCIL BEATS THE STORM AND THE UFOS

 [singlepic id=68 w=320 h=240 float=right] On an evening when a passing storm delayed the show ,  track regular Jack Pencil turned back the field, including the UFO regulars, to snag the July 4 celebration at Bedford.  It was point leader Pencil’s third Bedford win of the season, the only repeater so far in that category at the track.   In other action, Zane Weicht snagged the  Semi Late event and Bill Replogle won the Pure Stock race  both joining Pencil as three time winners, before Mike Lauffer broke the mold with his  fourths 4 Cylinder win of the season.  Even after the hour plus rain delay to start the show, the entire holiday event was over at 11:15.
 
     It took three tries to get the Late Model event underway.  On the third and final try pole sitter Chuck Clise roared away to a healthy lead over the first ten green flag laps  with Scott Haus in tow.  Pencil marched forward  and took the spot from Haus on lap three.  He closed in on Clise but did not make a serious threat for the lead.   Read more »

TROUTMAN RETURNS FOR WIN AT BEDFORD

[singlepic id=67 w=320 h=240 float=right]DJ Troutman, only a week removed from having let one slip away, returned with a vengeance  by dominating  the Late Model event Friday at  the Bedford Speedway.  It was Troutman’s first Late Model win at the track in 2012 although he had scored a Limited win earlier While Troutman  left no doubt in the Late Model event,  each of the other races featured late race drama and in two cases a surprise winner.  Josh Berrier went from 4th to first on the chaotic last lap of limited action,  Travis Group slid into the Pure Stock win on the white flag and Cale Martin scored his first ever 4 Cylinder win.
 
     Only a week ago DJ Troutman had a big lead wiped out when he tangled with a lapped car late in the race.  That misfortune  lowered his point average and rewarded him with an up front start this week.    The Late Model race got off to a rocky start as  pole sitter Chris Harr spun in front of the field in turn one.   After the chaos was cleared, Troutman found himself on the pole.  He jumped into the initial lead and ran off from the field.
 
    Jeff Rine, driving his own #2 for the event arrived in second spot but failed to mount a serious challenge to Troutman, even though three cautions slowed the event.    At the finish it was Troutman by a wide margin over  Rine, followed by Chuck Clise, Greg Fetters and Jack Pencil.   Lincoln Ritchey, Wayne Johnson, Eric Zembower Cory Weaver and Harr trailed.  Point leader Matt Parks, who was in and out of the pits during the  feature and Clise won the heats. FIRST TIME WINNERS RULE BEDFORD SPEEDWAY

 [singlepic id=66 w=320 h=240 float=right]Three first time winners graced victory lane Friday night at the Bedford Speedway, two of them the sons of  former big winners at the track.   Andy Haus,  The son of the all time leading Late Model winner at Bedford became the 124th different  Late Model with a thrilling come from behind win in that 25 lapper.  Mike Altobelli Jr, Whose father was a Semi Late legend, scored his first Limited event win.  Tim Brown completed the new winners list with a Pure Stock win.   In between,   Zane Weicht added to his Semi Late total and Dave Lambert took the 4 cylinder event.
 
     DJ Troutman was the early leader in the Late Model event after he  got by Eric Zembower on lap one.  With only a couple early cautions, Troutman was able to stretch out a decent early lead over first Zembower, then Matt Sponaugle who took over on lap 6.  Andy Haus finally emerged in second on lap 12 and began his charge
Haus closed on Troutman a bit each lap but Jeff Rine was fast closing on both of them after he shook the pack.
 
    Each lap Haus closed the distance  but that closing rate became unimportant on lap 19 as Troutman impacted the spinning lapped car of Ron Coleman.    The crash was such that it brought out the red flag  with Haus as the leader.    During the red flag delay,  Rine,  the new second place man who had been closing on Haus  retired to the pits,  but Haus had  other problems as the oil light on his panel was aglow.   Read more »

DJ MYERS MAKES FIRST VISIT A GOOD ONE AT BEDFORD

 [singlepic id=64 w=320 h=240 float=right]DJ Myers made his first visit to Bedford in 2012 a good one as he raced to the Late Model win Friday night.  Myers came from mid pack to score the thrilling win, snatching it in the closing laps from a disappointed Chris Harr.  Robbie Black dominated the Limited event, going pole to pole for his win in their 20 lapper.  Bill Henney finally ended a run of bad luck by snaring the Semi Late race, Travis Group won the Pure Stock event and Mike Lauffer prevailed in the most exciting race of the night, the 4 Cylinder closer.
 
    Chris Harr was the Late Model pole sitter and early leader.  Chuck Clise was his earliest chaser but appeared to be no threat  as Harr moved out to the early lead.   While Harr increasingly looked like he was turning around his miserable 2012 luck, DJ  Myers was sliding through the field from his 7th starting spot. By the time of the first caution period on lap 17, Myers was up to third behind Clise and Harr, and had brought tenth starting Andy Haus with him.
 
     The caution wiped out Harr’s decent lead and placed Myers firmly in the mix.  He got by Clise on lap 19, then zipped Harr  two laps later.  Harr then added to the drama by spinning and collecting third place runner Haus on lap 22.  That set up a  three lap shootout between Myers and Jack Pencil, but Myers prevailed for the win.  Pencil took second.  Clise, Matt Parks, Cory Weaver, Wayne Johnson, Harr, Mitch Hack, Haus and Matt Sponaugle  completed the top 10.  Myers and Clise won the heats. PARKS SCORED BIG AT BEDFORD HOLIDAY RACE

[singlepic id=62 w=320 h=240 float=right]Matt Parks was up to the challenge as he scored the Memorial Day win Monday at the Bedford Speedway.
Parks won $3000 for his effort in the Three State Fliers event after holding off a furious late race charge from Greg Satterlee to secure the win.  In other action, Zane Weicht rallied late to snag the Semi Late event,  Bill Replogle hed off Chad Gambol in Pure Stock action and Mike Lauffer won the 4 cylinder finale.
 
    Mass mayhem dotted the beginning of the Late Model 35 lapper  beginning on the first lap when front row starter Jack Pencil got into the wall on the backstretch.  Two more cautions slowed the event before two laps were completed  including a grinding frontstretch crash involving Eric Zembower and Walker Arthur..
 
    When the field settled down for real racing, Parks was the leader with Jeff Rine in hot pursuit. Rine slipped by to lead lap three but Parks  fought right back  to the front.  Rine followed every move  the leader made with Dylan Yoder in hot pursuit.  But the man on the move was Greg Satterlee.  He started 18th in the field and, after finding the outside groove to his liking,  charged to the front.  Satterlee  emerged from the pack to take fourth on lap 12 and kept coming.  He disposed of Yoder  on lap 16 and almost instantly reeled in the front two. JEFF RINE LEADS FIRST TIME WINNERS AT BEDFORD

 [singlepic id=61 w=320 h=240 float=right]Jeff Rine led the list as four new drivers became first time 2012 winners at Bedford Friday night.  Rine, who tarted off the season with three consecutive second place runs finally took the  big prize in the Late Model 25 lapper, coming from the back and winning in a romp.   Rance Garlock, Cody Butterbaugh and Mike Lauffer also won  for the first time this seson in the Limited , Semi Late an 4 cylinder events,  Travis Group became a rarity as he scored his second Pure Stock event win.
 
  Jeff Rine was buried tenth in the Late Model starting field but was on a mission from the start.  Wayne Johnson led the opening laps before Matt Sponaugle got by.   As Sponaugle led,  Andy Haus maneuvered  into second spot by lap 4 but could not close on Sponaugle who sped away after three early caution events.  But the man on the move was Rine who was streaking forward.  With Jack Pencil , Rine was in the top five by lap 10.   They both disposed of Scott Haus on that lap and Rine made the move on Pencil a lap later.  It took two  laps to run down Andy Haus and several more to get by but Rine was second on lap 15. CHUCK CLISE GRABS FIRST BEDFORD WIN

[singlepic id=58 w=320 h=240 float=right]After years of trying, Chuck Clise roared to his first ever Late model feature win at Bedford Speedway Friday night.  In the Limited event, Josh Berrier duplicated that feat as he also scored his first career win at the track.   Chris Chamberlain came from deep in the field to claim another Semi Late win before Bill Replogle took the Pure Stock event.  Dan Jackson won his third 4 Cylinder race of the season to end the evening.
 
     After an early season of hard luck,  Chuck Clise finally was rewarded with an up front starting spot.  He responded  by jumping into the lead at the start and running off.  But after a few laps Greg Fetters had run Clise down and the race was on.  Lap after lap Fetters gave Clise all he could handle at the front but Clise repelled every challenge.   
 
      Behind the leaders,  Scott Lebarron and Brian Booze were charging through the field.  With only a single caution in the race  Lebarron moved  up from tenth to fourth by lap 10.   He got be Andy Haus for third with 5 to go bu could not close on the lead pair.  Booze closed on Haus  over the last few laps but his charge forward stopped at  fifth for the evening. JACK IS BACK AT BEDFORD

[singlepic id=55 w=320 h=240 float=right]Bedford Speedway beat the weather and Jack Pencil beat the field Friday night.    Pencil took the 25 lap Late Model event with a late race rally, becomming the first repeat winner of the 2012 season.  In other action,  Robby Black dominated the Limited Late Model model event while Chris Chamberlain won the Semi Late race,  Travis Group was the Pure Stock winner and Dave Lambert won the 4 Cylinder closer.

 Eric Zembower, after a dominating heat race victory was the Late Model pole sitter and early leader. Jeff Rine emerged from the pack and began to reel in the leader but Pencil was third and was catching them both.  Rine and Pencil had caught Zembower by  the time  Matt Sala brought out the only caution of the event on lap 11.
 
 On the restart Rine immediately worked on Zembower and the two raced hard for 6 laps before Rine got by.   Pencil got by Zembower a lap later and set out after Rine..  With Rine on the bottom,  Pencil swung to the outside and with two laps to go edged ahead.  Pencil then roared to his second win of the season.  Rine chased the winner across the line, followed by Zembower, Matt Sponaugle, Ron Delano, Jamie Lathroum, Matt Parks, Jeff Miller, Chris Harr and Cory Weaver.  Zembower and Lathroum won the heats. SINGLETON STEELS ONE IN BEDFORD ACTION

[singlepic id=54 w=320 h=240 float=right]Rick Singleton made his 2012 debut a winning one with victory in the 25 lap event Friday night at the Bedford Speedway.  Singleton, who has flirted between the Late Model and Limited fields for years,  waxed the field  of heavy hitters with his steel block 358 car Limited legal.  In other action, DJ Troutman took the 20 lap Limited event with a dominating performance while  60 year old Darryl Whetstone won the Semi Late race . Charlie Walter  took the Pure Stock event after a wild first lap pileup wiped out much of the field before Dan Jackson was credited with the  4 Cylinder win after a grinding crash ended the festivities at only 8 laps
 
Singleton won the pole in the pre race draw and didnt waste his opportunity.  He shot by Andy Haus at the start and ran off from the field.  Scott Haus jumped in to second on the second lap and was soon joined by Jeff Rine in third  but Singleton was pulling away.    Haus and Rine battled  hard until Haus brought out the first caution on lap 16 by drifting to a halt in turn 4. The yellow closed the field and Rine made a bold move on the restart actually moving ahead. But Singleton regained his rythm and again moved away.
  
Jack Pencil arrived on Rines bumper as the laps wore down but was unable to effect a pass.  At the finish it was Ssingleton  easily over Rine and Pencil.   Jerry Bard was fourth followed by Chad Hollenbeck, Matt Parks, Justin Kann,  Greg Fetters , Ron Delano and Eric Zembower.  Scott Haus and Hollenbeck won the heats. PENCIL OPENS BEDFORD SEASON WITH WIN

[singlepic id=53 w=320 h=240 float=right]Defending track champion Jack Pencil opened the 2012 Bedford  season with a win in the 25 lap Late Model event.  It was a bit of irony for Pencil as  he had been the winner of the last Joe Padula promoted  event at the speedway 12 years ago.  In other action, Brian Lessley survived a wild last lap to score a photo finish win in Limited action,  Bob Jay came from the back to win the Semi Late event, Lou Wannyn won the Pure Stock event and Dan Jackson took the 4 Cylinder finale.
 
      Pencil was the big winner in the opening day pill draw start as his 4th place run in his heat rewarded him  with a pole position start,  He jumped ahead of Wayne Johnson at the start and opened up a huge lead over the first 20 green flag laps.   By lap 11 though,  Jeff Rine had moved up to second place and was noticeably closing on Johnson.
 
     Rine was approaching Pencil when a 5 car melee broke out in turn 4 bringing out the only caution of the event.
That action resulted in the retirement of Scott Haus and Greg Fetters among others and gave Rine a close up look at the leader.   But on the restart with 5 laps to go, Pencil scooted away to score the win.  Rine was second, followed by Matt Parks, Colby Frye, Johnson, Chuck Clise, Matt Sponaugle, Eric Zembower, Chris Harr and Tom Decker.  Haus and Frye won the heats.
