KANN JOINS THE CLUB AT BEDFORD

[singlepic id=79 w=320 h=240 float=right]Another wild Friday night at Bedford Speedway saw several new first time and infrequent feature winners and one winning streak continue.   Justin Kann became the 126th different Late Model winner at the track with a dominating performance over that event.  Deanna Groves made history at the track when she swept to the win in Economodified action, the first female feature winner in track history,  Kyle Beckett also became a first time winner in Pure Stock action.  Robby Black won the Limited event, Jesse Snyder won the Semi Late thriller and Cale Martin won another wild 4 Cylinder race to complete the evening.
    Justin Kann started on the front row of the Late Model 25 lapper and instantly set sail.  He got by pole sitter Steve Campbell at the start and ran off.  Campbell fell back as far as fifth in the early stages as Jeff Rine and DJ Troutman rushed by.  Rine ran Kann down and looked like he would take over but Kann held off all challenges.  Rine retired after a 13th lap caution, leaving Troutman in pursuit. PARKS UNDEFEATED AT BEDFORD

[singlepic id=78 w=320 h=240 float=right]Matt Parks, who opened the season at Bedford  Speedway with a Sunday win, returned to do it again in the first Friday night event at the track.  Counting a last season win at Thunder Valley, this was his third consecutive Joe Padula feature win hat.  In other action,  Dave Leidy scored his first ever Bedford win  in Limited action, Bob Jay held off a late race charge in Semi Late action, Terry Norris went pole to pole in the Pure Stock event,  and Cale Martin won the 4 Cylinder finale.  The new Economods ran their first event with Craig Perigo the victor.
Matt Parks started sixth in the Late Model 25 lapper and pretty much stayed there through the early laps as Justin Kann led.  Kann held early pursuers including DJ Troutman  and Chuck Clise at bay while Parks remained in the pack.  With most of the front runners filling the bottom groove, Parks moved up to the top around lap five and went forward.  He got by Troutman  and Clise on lap 12 for second, just before a caution waved for Chris Harr.   Read more »

PARKS PARKS IN VICTORY LANE AT BEDFORD

    Matt Parks got the season off in a good way by scorching the field in the Bedford Speedway 2013 opener Sunday night.  Robbie Black had a similar fate by snagging the Limited season opener after holding off a late charge from Rick Singleton.   In other action, Kerry Molovich ran third in the Semi Late event but was declared the victor after post race inspections, Bill Replogle won the Pure Stock event and CaleMartin won the wild 4 Cylinder finale
      Parks came from deep in the field to score a heat race win earlier and almost duplicated that fete in the 25 lap feature.   He started fifth in that field but was on the move from the start.  Chuck Clise started on the front row and grabbed the early lead,  but Parks was up to second by lap three.  After a quick slowdown for a multi car tangle which included second heat race winner Jeff Rine, Parks was on the move.  He jumped around Clise on lap five and set sail. Champions Crowned at Bedford Banquet

[singlepic id=76 w=320 h=240 float=center]BEDFORD, Pa- Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway concluded the 2012 racing season Saturday night December 1st, with the Annual Awards Banquet at the Bedford Elks Club Ballroom. The top ten points finishers were recognized in the Super Late Model, Late Model Sportsman, Semi Late, Pure Stock and Four Cylinder divisions.

Track champions receiving their awards at the banquet were Jack Pencil, Michael Altobelli, Jr., Zane Weicht, Terry Norris and Davey Lambert.

This season marked Pencil’s record 7th Bedford Super Late Model track championship which combined with two Semi Late titles from the 90’s marked his 9th overall championship. Making him the most successful racer in speedway history. At the conclusion of the racing season Pencil announced his retirement from the sport after nearly 25 years of racing. Pencil was presented with several special awards celebrating his career. Lias Tire of Indiana Pa, presented Pencil with a special appreciation award. The track also presented Jack with a replica trophy marking his big wins in the 1993 and 1994 Semi Late 100 lapper, replacing a trophy that was destroyed when Pencil’s garage burned down several years ago. DJ TROUTMAN ENDS BEDFORD SEASON WITH BIG WIN

The 2012 season at Bedford ended in a big way with triple 35 lap events  headed by the Limited Late Models Saturday night.  D J Troutman, who already scored bot a Limited and a Late Model win at the track in 2012,  rallied late to take the big Limited 35 lap season finale.  Jim Sayler, on a rare visit down from Thunder Valley snared the 35 lap Semi Late event, while Charlie Walter took his forst Pure Stock win in quite a while in that 35 lapper.   Mike Lauffer, the track leading winner in 2012, finished the evening by taking the 4 Cylinder finale, his seventh of the year.
 
       Rob Black was the pole sitter and early leader in the Limited event.  Troutman emerged from early lap action in second place by lap three.   After that it was three more laps until Troutman took over.  Black ended up with his hands full of Mike Altobelli ,  Further back,  JT Spence was marching forward from 13th and Gene Knaub was coming from 15th.  They ran down the top five cars by mid race and  got busy with Rick Singleton and Grant Adams battling to get into the top 5. SPONAUGLE STARTS OFF BEDFORD WEEKEND WITH WIN

 [singlepic id=74 w=320 h=240 float=right]Matt Sponaugle,   who before August was winless at the Bedford Speedway, grabbed win number two Friday night. Sponaugle’s win came   in the 25 lap Late Model headline event on the first night of the two day Fall Finale at the track.  Tyler Beckett  scored his first career 4 Cylinder win  in the only other feature of the evening.  The Semi Lates, Limiteds and Pure Stocks  all ran their qualifying races for the two day event.
 
Matt Sponaugle, who had won his first career  Late Model race at the track only two races ago, made a statement with a resounding win.  He was the recipient of a  invert six redraw and began the race from the pole.  He shot into the lead at the start and wired the field.  Steve Campbell maneuvered into second place early and chased Sponaugle for the duration.   But all eyes were on Jack Pencil and Dylan Yoder as they picked their way forward. COVERT BREAKS RIDE BUT BAGS BEDFORD BIGGIE

Jason Covert,  who has made a habit of rolling into town and grabbing big money shows, did it again  as he wired the field to take the Bedford Labor day 55 Friday night.   It is the longest and richest event on the annual Bedford schedule,  55 laps with $5055 going into Covert’s pocket for the run. He became the tenth different winner in the 2012 season at the track.  In other action,  Chris Chamberlain came from deep in the field to snag the Semi Late event,  and Bill Replogle won the Pure Stock race .  Mike Lauffer closed out the evening  as the leading 2012 winner at Bedford with his seventh 4 Cylinder win.
 
    By running second in the dash, Jason Covert started on the outside front row for the 55 lapper.  He jumped into the lead at the start and, although threatened,  was never headed.  Three cautions for minor incidents dotted the first three laps,  and three more followed during the early laps, but Covert zipped away from Scott Haus on every restart. SPONAUGLE GETS MILESTONE WIN AT BEDFORD.

 [singlepic id=73 w=320 h=240 float=right]Matt Sponaugle  added his name to  the list of Late Model feature winners Friday night  Bedford Speedway.        With the win Sponaugle became the 125th  different Late Model winner in the long history at the track.  In a Limited event which featured a big crash for the second week in a row, Craig Perigo romped to his first win of the season .  
Bob Jay, who last won on opening day, took the Semi Late win while Terry Norris took his first  of 2012 in the Pure Stock 25 lapper.  Randy Doty scored in the All American event  as that group visited Bedford , before Dave Lambert survived a wild last lap to win the 4 Cylinder finale.
 
       Matt Sponaugle has been so close so many times but finally sealed the deal with a dominating Late Model performance.  Lincoln Ritchey was the pole sitter and broke off to the initial lead, but Sponaugle busted out from fourth to lead the first lap. DJ Troutman got by Ritchey on lap three and the event’s only caution, for a Chris Harr spin on lap 7, closed him on Sponaugles bumper.   Read more »

HODNETT SNAGS BEDFORD SUNDAY SHOW

 [singlepic id=71 w=320 h=240 float=right]Greg Hodnett rallied late to snag the big Morrall Memorial Sprint car show Sunday night at the Bedford Speedway. The show, a make up event after an early season rainout, was the only sprint car show at Bedford this  year.  In other action,  Rance Garlock enjoyed Christmas in August with the Limited victory and Mike Lauffer took the 4 Cylinder night cap.
 
    Mike Wagner was the pole sitter and early leader in the sprint car 30 lapper.  He ran off and basically hid  from the field through the first 12 green flag laps.    Greg Hodnett  ran to second  ahead of  Darryn Pittman but that pair never closed on the fleet Wagner.    Read more »

RINE DOMINATES BEDFORD FAIR EVENT

[singlepic id=70 w=320 h=240 float=right] Racing was  the Friday night main attraction  at the 139th Bedford Fair.  Every  Bedford racer puts forth extra effort to do well at the fair in front of the largest crowd of the year and the Fair atmosphere.  Jeff Rine brought his A game as he guided Bob Elbins to a dominating win in the Late Model event.  It was Rine’s second Bedford win of the season.  In other action,  Robby Black was almost as dominant in winning the Limited event,  and  Chris Chamberlain  emerged from wild three car racing to take the Semi Late win.  Bill Replogle and Mike Lauffer ended the evening  by scoring second consecutive  wins in Pure Stock and 4 Cylinder wins
 
    Jeff Rine started fourth in the Late Model event but left no doubt as to who was incharge as he was in the lead at the completion of lap one.  Rine continued to lead and ran off from the field after each of several early lap caution events.  Once the field settled down and ran 13 consecutive green flag laps after lap 7,  Rine opened up a commanding lead of over a half lap over Cory Weaver.   Read more »
