The Bedford Speedway was a two time loser to the weather this weekend as both ends of the two race weekend were rained out

   On Friday a passing shower hit just as cars and fans were arriving,  The track crew worked diligently to get the track ready and the program started only a half hour late.  But during the second Pure Stock heat the sky opened again.  The cars went pitward and the track crew went back to work, losing another 40 minutes.

The second Pure Stock heat was completed, but then it rained again, this time hard enough to kill the entire program  Brad Nesline and Charlie Walter won the two Pure stock heats between the rain drops.

    On Saturday,  the rain arrived early enough to stop things before they ever got started,  wiping out the entire weekend

     The 305 Sprints scheduled for the Friday portion are on the schedule several more times this season, and rainchecks will be honored all year.

The Three State Flyers invaded the Bedford Speedway Friday night but it was track regular Jeff Rine in Victory Lane after the 35 lap event.  For Rine, who went all of 2013 winless at the track, it was the second win in a row in 2014 and the 14th of his Bedford career.  In other action, Lou Wannyn took the Semi Late event, Jonathan Taylor won the Economodified race and Charlie Walter won the Pure Stock nightcap.

    Jim Yoder brought the field to the green but it was Matt Cochran ahead at the end of the first lap.  Cochran led relatively easily through 4 early cautions, each for minor events, but third place starter Rine, who took second on lap three was in pursuit.   Cochran took off after what would become the event’s last restart on lap 9, but , after losing ground early, Rine began to close.  After being denied a win all of  2013, Jeff Rine struck early in 2014 with  a resounding Late Model win at Bedford Friday night.  It was Rine’s first Bedford score since July of 2012 and 13th of his career at the track.

    In other action, Rick Singleton was the only repeat 2014 winner as he took a second consecutive Limited win,  and the Taylors. this time Evan, dominated the Economod event, but first time winners claimed the other three races on the busy Friday.  Greg Cornell took is first ever Bedford Semi Laet win,  Dave Riley won his first  track Pure Stock event and Jeff Vasos ended the evening with his first career 4 Cylinder win.

   Eric Zembower led the Late Model field to the green but it was Mat Parks blowing by to lead the first lap.   Chad Hollenbeck got by for second on the next lap but Parks had things well in hand  leading easily .  But the man on the move was Rine,  passing a car a lap to move up to fourth by lap five.   Read more »

  Dylan Yoder capped a race long charge with a late race pass to snag the 2014 season opener at the Bedford Speedway Sunday night.  Counting a late 2013 win, it was Yoder’s second win in the last three Bedford Late Model events.  Rick Singleton made a triumphant return to Bedford with a Limited  win, Jamie Swank survived a wild three wide pass to snag the Semi Late win before Charlie Walter won the Pure Stock event and Pat Brehm took the 4 Cylinder nightcap.

    Yoder lined up fourth in the Late Model 25 lapper which had a rough time getting started.  Two cautions in the first three laps slowed the event.  Pole starter Jeff Rine showed the way from the start  and was still the leader of the lap 3 restart. Read more »

The 2013 Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway racing season officially concluded Saturday night February 1^st, with the Annual Awards Banquet at the Bedford Elks Club Ballroom. The top point’s finishers were recognized in the Super Late Model, Late Model Sportsman, Semi Late, Modified, Pure Stock and Four Cylinder divisions.

 The track was fast and DJ Troutman was the fastest at Bedford Friday night.  Troutman  scored a drama filled last lap Late Model victory in the first night of  Fallfest action at the track.    It was Troutman’s first 2013 win at the track  and came in the last Late Model event of the season

      Troutman was the recipient of pre race luck, but then had to earn his victory the hard way.  When original pole sitter Chuck Clise failed to answer the bell, Troutman moved up to join front row starter Mike Altobelli on the front row.  Action started early as a wild nine car pileup occurred in turn 4 as the green flag dropped.

    On the second attempt, Troutman out wrestled Altobelli to take the initial lead.   The pair ran in that order with Shawn Claar third when the first caution flew on lap 7.    Read more »

On a night dedicated to the first ever Bedford Speedway winner 77 years ago, Billy Winn,  Nathan Lasalle became the newest first time Bedford winner Friday night. Lasalle’s big win in the Limited Late Model headliner followed in the footsteps of his famous father, Dion,  who won in four different divisions at the track, as well as uncle Chuck and cousin Brandon, also winners.  Greg Hainsey , who only a week ago won his first ever Semi Late event, returned for a second dose Friday, this one won in the tech line.  Tony Daniels also was a first time winner as he prevailed in the best Economodified race of the year.  Paul Bacchus won the special exhibition of the PenMar classic club, before Ed Vogel and Ryan Peer closed out the evening with wins.

 

   Nathan Lasalle started on the pole and grabbed the early Limited lead.  The event was slowed by caution for Robby Black on lap three  and Craig Perigo had already worked up into a challenging position on Lasalle.  But Perigo’s night went south as he banked off the wall on the restart and headed pitward with a flat.
