It was a night when the big winners kept winning as Bedford ended the 2014 season  with Fallfest 2014.  Rick Singleton capped off  his year with his ninth Limited win of the season, and Evan Taylor won a fifth Economodified event.  Jim Sayler, who had won three Fallfest events over the years, added a fourth Semi Late win, and  Cale Martin finished a late season rally with his third 4 Cylinder win in the last four weeks,. after track champ Jeff Rine had already won his fifth Late Model event  in the Friday night portion of Fallfest.  At the other end of the spectrum,  Ralph Engle won his first ever Bedford event in the special 305 Sprint show and Brian Duffy won his first race in over two years in the Pure Stock nightcap.
Rick Singleton started fifth in the Limited 35 lapper.   Curtis Heath was the early leader and stayed in that spot as Singleton advanced.  Singleton got by on lap ten in what became a caution filled crashfest, but the frequent yellow flags kept the field close.  There were ten yellows thrown before the planned fuel stop on lap 18 as the entire field shifted around. Jeff Rine capped off his dream season at Bedford as he scored another win in the Friday portion of the season ending Fall Fest at the track.  It was the fifth win of the season for the 2014 track champion, a tremendous rebound after going 2013 winless at the track.  It was also Rine’s 17th career Bedford win, moving him into a tie for tenth place on the all time track list with retired  Larry Wright.
Chuck Clise led the field to the green and assumed the initial lead.  But after a lap one caution, DJ Troutman slid by Clise to lead lap two.  Troutman led and pulled away from Clise, Gene Knaub and a charging Rine over the next five or six laps,  But after about lap nine, the chasers all began to close on him.   Read more »

Rick Singleton continued his stellar Bedford season as he swept to another win at Bedford Speedway on Sunday.  Singleton’s win in the special holiday show was his eighth Limited win of the season at Bedford, where he had already clinched the 2014 championship.  Jeff Miller Jr picked off his first ever Bedford  win in the accompanying 305 sprint event.  Scott Rickrode won the special vintage car race, Ed Vogel came from the pack late to snag the Pure Stock win before Cale Martin took the 4 Cylinder finale.
Darrell Dick was the pole sitter in the special holiday weekend Limited event and easily led the early laps.  Dick had a large lead over Brian Lessley when the first caution flew on lap 10.  That caution closed the field but more importantly brought Singleton,  who had climbed from eighth to third, within sight of the leaders.
It took two laps for Singleton to secure second place and he immediately set sail for Dick.  On lap 14 he took the lead which he held to the end.  Robby Black’s climb to the front was slower than Singleton’s.  He finally got to third by lap 19 and took second from Dick on the last lap.  But Singleton was well ahead and swept to the win. With a show of total domination, Kenny Pettyjohn annihilated the field Friday night in the annual Labor Day 55 at Bedford.  It was Pettyjohn’s first ever Bedford win as he became the 131st different winner in the speedway’s long history.    Joining Pettyjon in the celebration were Jesse Snyder (Semi Late) and Kyle Beckett (Pure Stock) who won their first of the season.  Jonathan Taylor took the Economodified win and Andrew Pluta made a daring last lap pass to take the 4 Cylinder finale.
The Labor Day 55, an annual tradition at the track, was led to the green by Chuck Clise.  But it was fellow front row starter Gene Knaub with the early lead, one which he stretched out during the first 11 all green laps. But the tension was mounting by then as Pettyjohn, Jason Covert and Jeff Rine had moved into third and fourth  and poised themselves as challengers.   Read more »

Matt Sponaugle ended a dry spell of almost two years by winning the  Late Model 25 lapper at Bedford Friday night.  Brian Lowery broke an even longer streak as he won his first Limited event since 2011 at the track.  In keeping with the trend of the night, Brad Nesline held off a thundering herd to score his first ever Bedford win in Pure Stock action, while Robert Pluta took his first 2014 4 Cylinder win.  Only Lou Wannyn broke the mold as he took his fifth win of the season in the biggest Semi Late race of the season, the  Weyant memorial event.
Chuck Clise got by Wayne Johnson to lead the first Late Model laps with Mike Altobelli in hot pursuit.   Matt Sponaugle joined the fray at the front by lap three and instantly gave Altobelli a battle.  Lap after lap the pair went side by side as Clise pulled away, Read more »

Jeff Rine made another thrilling run from the pack to score another last lap pass for the win in Late Model action at Bedford Friday night.  It was Rine’s fourth 2014 win at Bedford, the second time he has made a last lap pass.  Rine, now with 16 career wins stands only one win away from cracking the track’s top ten winner list. Rick Singleton again dominated the Limited action to score his third in a row and sixth of the season.  Chris Chamberlain and Dennnis Perigo rallied late to win the Semi Late and Economodified events, before Brad Feight went pole to pole in the Pure Stock closer.
Eric Zembower brought the Late Model field to the line and took the early lead.  Gene Knaub arrived on the scene quickly and wrestled with Zembower until he took over on lap three.  Knaub had a decent lead over new second place runner Mike Altobelli when the only caution of the event flew on lap 7, with Rine up to third.      Rick Singleton’s stellar 2014 season continued Friday night at Bedford Speedway as he once again raced from deep in the field to score the Limited Late Model win.  It was Singleton’s fifth win out of the nine 2014 Limited races so far, nearly equalling his previous career total at the track in one season.  Greg Hainsey waited a year and a day to score another Semi Late win, surviving a serious race long challenge to do so.   Terry Norris also ended a long dry spell with his first Pure Stock win in almost a calendar year.  In other action on the annual $5 night program, it was again a Taylor family battle in the Economodified race,  And Ryan Peer scored another 4 Cylinder win.
Singleton, who won last week after an early spin, again started deep in the Limited field.  Darrell Dick took pff from the pole and led the early laps.  He seemed to have things well in hand, running off from Matt Eckman and Nathan Lasalle early, But Singleton was on the move.  He was third by lap five and coming fast.  Chuck Clise picked the right moment to shine as he roared to the win at the big Bedford Fair sweepstakes race Friday night.    It was Clise’s third career Bedford win but the first of the 2014 season and came before the huge fair week crowd.  Rick Singleton spotted the whole field a starting spot as he came from dead last to score the thrilling win in Limited action, his fourth of the season.  Lou Wannyn rallied late to take the Semi Late victory before Charlie Walter ended the evening with his fifth Pure Stock triumph of the season then stayed late to keep it.
The Late Model 25 lap event started roughly as it took three attempts to get going.  Clise snagged the lead from his pole position and never looked back when the field finally got going ahead of  Mike Altobelli.   Altobelli’s car quit on lap three and he drifted to the pits, one lap before Jeff Rine, charging forward from  sixth, spun in turn four.   Read more »

It was a night of first time winners at Bedford Friday night as two racers won their first ever features, one took his first in over a decade, and one took his first of the season.   Eric Zembower led the way with a popular win in the Late Model 25 lapper.  It was his fourth career Bedford win but his first since June of 2002.  Scoring their first ever Bedford wins were Brian Walker in the 305 Sprints and Brad Feight in the Pure Stocks.  Andrew Pluta was the surprise winner in 4 Cylinder action.  But in Economodified action it was more of the same with a Taylor family reunion in Victory Lane, this time Evan.
Matt Cosner led the Late Model field to the green but it was Eric Zembower ahead by the end of the first lap.  Once in front Zembower pulled away with each passing lap as Cosner fought off a crowd.  Mike Altobelli was the most persistant threat to Cosner and he finally got by for second on lap 11.
